F*CKED up: The way we mistake hype and “revolutionary”

Elon Musik is revolutionary? Not really – He is primarily an excellent business person that started with an intelligent brain and an affluent family into this temporary journey called life (who is his daddy?).

A lot of his company share value, that makes up his net worth is defined by the hype he is creating with his carefully crafted public persona that is amplified by the overuse of the terms “revolutionary” or “Genius”:

Electric cars? Wow incredible!

Space ships? omfg!

A boring tunnel? Never heard of subway systems or did ya?

Buying the shit of ouf Twitter and jerk*ng off to a toxic workplace culture? Mhhhmm hit me!

Maybe you see the problem but maybe you are blinded by the shine of the herd mentality. In todays society where we have an overbloat of information (to which this blog may contributes) we loose our ability to think critically. Neither of his things solves our current problems. Electric cars are not more sustainable than previous cars, space ships are relevant but please let us save earth first and the boring tunnel? Here we are at the first problem again: If we would think about the core need, which is transportation and the main problem with transportation, which are it’s emissions, maybe other ideas come up, for example subway-systems (or boring tunnels in the perspective of people thinking Elon Musks boring tunnel is more interesting), that are part of different transport systems, like public transit systems which may be the best solution to solve the core need (which is indeed not hypeable).

We have seen the same with the dotcom-bubble, the Metaverse and the crypto-bullshit. Unquestioned hype everywhere without questioning the deeper use and realistic applications of those things.

And the public perception of Elon Musk is just a prime example of the stupidified way of sheepish thinking, when it comes to rich and therefore influential people. He is respectable with his achievements, but please do not assign names like his to our biggest challenges of our times or unsustainable innovations as revolutionary. Merci!
