The multipolar definition of “Art”

Looking at a finished piece of art often conveys an elegance to the viewer, which is unfolding in a blink of time. Yet the path to those pieces is not often just a result of dirty work but rather an art form within itself – Art, that is truly captivating collects multifaceted personal elements of the artist, in which the viewer resonates unconsciously.

I have always dismissed monopolar views on those varying definitions of art, as those are always on the extreme opposites of either intellectual mirror-masturbation or the consumerists perspective of quality. The latter exists on the spectrum of the 0815-art-gallery visitor only being affected by technically virtuous pieces or ultrablown hypes from the art-auction-monopolies. Those viewpoints fit the typical schemes of black-and-white thinking, which currently is the most visible in the social divisions everywhere.

Art is neither a matter of skill or market value – Art goes deeper, beyond pure logic and even our awareness. Many can see if a piece is just “empty” or have “magical ingredients” some layers deeper. There are many ways to uncover those deeper layers, starting from the artists biography, personality or the context the pieces have been created. Also art is not limited on physical objects themselves – Many pieces of art are not directly seen as pieces of art: life-stories, music, products or even metaphysical meanings can be entities of art. Art is multipolar and the essence of multilayered communication, which transcends in the most elegant way.

Personally I wish for more questioning of art in general, not only in classical fields but in every creative pursuit, as art allows for an open space as a playground for thoughts, theories, stories and emotions which is just bound to imagination and free from external rules and the nature of physics. Specially nowadays where current globalism structures lead to a slow death of creativity in our society (more on “The Creativity Crisis” in the next post).

The more one tries to define art, the more it can’t be categorized and those who try to pin it to one perspective miss the point of art entirely – the term “art” is multipolar and art itself in a metaphysical yet beautiful way.
